Before getting back to the grind of maxing out a character’s level in Phantom Breaker: Battle Grounds, I figured I’d knock out a couple online achievements finally. But I decided it might be fun to do the co-op ones with Blue Melodia, so I drug myself back to replaying the fourth stage over and over again until Frau finally hit level 99. Didn’t take long to run through with Kurisu until she was level 25, and then I quickly got the kiddo over and we ran through a level in co-op to put a bow on it all! This was a cool one. I doubt I’d enjoy the mainline game anywhere near as much… though I do own it. Hmm…

C-C-C-Combo!

As I said last entry, I originally started Phantom Breaker: BG to knock off a monthly Target over on TrueAchievements. Well, I still had one more to go, but… it involved racing. If there’s a genre I’m usually not a fan of starting it’s racing, as those games just tend to tick me right off. So let’s do an easy one! I’d actually started TRAX - Build it, Race it a few times but almost always lost my taste for the slot car gameplay. Well, this time I locked in and, while it was still pretty annoying, it truly does work as it should and when you get the hang of how to take turns it becomes very easy. Took me less than 50 minutes from start to finish!

Truly thrilling stuff.

Since I’d already gotten my achievements for the day in Trax, I had all the rest of my holiday off of work to get other stuff done. I wanted to maybe move to my next game, but thought it might be good to finally chip away more at DUCATI - 90th Anniversary. I’ve made little half-hearted efforts over time to work on the races, but they’re just sooooo boring. The only real challenge to this completion is the online grind (if you don’t have multiple Xboxes and such) and the Time Trials in each era of races. The latter’s requirements are so tight, and even managing a bronze medal is often a tough effort. I went through all of the 2000s races this session, including the Time Trial (first try!) and now only have the “Modern era” and finale to get through. But it’s being written about here, so clearly I managed to get yet another achievement! I seem to have gotten the last title(s) I needed, so now it’s solely about medaling the rest of the events and I’m finally done.

I’ve been trying to dig into my older Xbox One games lately, instead of just my Xbox 360 ones. One cute game I picked up a good few years ago was Alba: A Wildlife Adventure, a game where you try to help the conservation of the island village of Secarral by taking pictures and helping the locals. I loaded it up on Tuesday! It’s very relaxed and cozy, and of course therefore also an easy completion. I got lost just cataloging the wildlife, which is funny because, oddly, there’s no real achievement for doing so, as they’re all tied to just completing the story line. You do need pics of particular birds to get enough petition signatures to finish the game, but most of the animals around the island can be ignored. But I couldn’t help myself! I really wish we had a proper Pokémon Snap-like on Xbox. That old Sealife Safari XBLA game is the closest we’ve gotten!

You love to see it, amirite?

I figured I’d get one of my imports knocked out, so I decided to do Phantom -PHANTOM OF INFERNO- on Wednesday. Now, with most of these, you follow a guide, skipping all the dialogue until a choice is made. Repeat for a few hours and there’s the completion. For this one, since I’m making more and more content nowadays, I figured I’d actually let the scenes play out for a few days for a video. Gave me a chance to watch TV while streaming, which is always nice. But after I got the first ending on Thursday, I started doing it the “usual” way on Friday and quickly knocked out the remaining achievements by midday Saturday. From what I could gather, you experience the narrative from the perspective of a high school student that is given a choice: join an assassin organization or die. Since it’s an anime, you’re quickly paired with a cute anime girl and anime stuff happens. A simple one!

If I’d been a teenage boy asked to join this group… yeah, I think so.

Okay, that’s enough “work”, I wanna play something fun that I actually wanna play. I’ve had my eyes on Achilles: Survivor for a while, after it was featured in an article on TA of “bullet heaven” games and looked neat enough. And since it was on sale this week, why not? It’s just Greek myth-themed Vampire Survivors, but has a 3D art style and feels “chunkier”. You still get weapons, walk around as they auto-fire, leveling up. This game adds level-based challenges though, and that does add some variety to it. I’m not finding it very difficult yet, but I only made it through the first set of stages. Man, its definitely a lot of fun, though!
