Well, I couldn’t have been more right about Dishonored and how much it would tick me off. This entire week was just my raging at a digital a-hole that wouldn’t do what I needed him to do, or RNG just boning me completely. So, first up was the “Back Alley Brawl” challenge mentioned last week, and it truly was pretty rough. You had to be incredibly aggressive and quick to attack the enemies as they spawn to keep them from killing each other. The worst was when dogs spawn: they will attack you quickly, pin you down while they maul you, and get killed SO easily by other enemies. I can’t count how many times I’d turn around and a thug has killed one or two dogs at the drop of a hat. Dudes be worse than a South Dakota governor! And then as you approach the final few waves you need, the Tallboys show up to instantly kill anything in their path. It comes down to not only fact reaction time, but smart management of mana and ammo. I soon fell into the routine of letting them spawn in so I can quickly scan the enemies for any loners and take them out before the others get to them. I’m pretty loose with bullets at first, as I find the crossbow more helpful later on to quickly stun a human enemy for a quick execution (or to perforate a hound’s skull). I tried not to use any excessive mana until the 9th wave, as then the first Torturer showed up and I needed to hit Bend Time to keep everyone against him alive… until I killed them first and built up enough Bloodthirst to finish him off too. It took a good 3-ish hours until I finally got to wave 12, killed everyone, and perfectly dispatched the two Tallboys… and the 2nd one blew up on me and killed me. GAAAHHHH! Another hour of frustration and I did it again, finally getting the achievement. I still had to 3-star the Expert version, but with all the skills I’d picked up going for the achievement, it was almost no effort.

AND SOMEHOW IT GOT WORSE.

Next up I went for “Bonfires”, as I knew the achievement for getting all the “tricky jumps” during a run was supposed to be tough. The main reason for this is that the checkpoints you have to reach are randomly spawned between six locations around the map. You score based on how quickly you reach the targets, and you also get more time. This means that if the next checkpoint spawns at the other end of the map on top of a tower, you’re kinda screwed as the 5 seconds you get back isn’t gonna amount to much. …And this kept happening. That exact thing. For almost 8 hours. This is almost worse than the previous challenge because you are 100% at the mercy of randomness. You can be going as fast as possible and it still won’t matter. The achievement was pretty annoying, but I was near irrationally irate by the end of getting the 3-star rating. The majority of that eight hours was spent on Expert, which is the same thing, except you have limited mana (Normal gives you infinite Blink) and Assassins to deal with. Like, what braindead nutjob thought this was a good idea?! As stated this took far too long, but with this done I now had the hardest stuff out of the way.

That’s not to say the rest was a cakewalk! No no, all of this is varying levels of nonsense, though as I progressed it definitely got easier and easier. By the end of Saturday and this add-on, it really was a joke how easy it had gotten. The “Burglar” Expert challenge was a little annoying, but that was actually kinda fun since this is what the game is actually good at. They also included a trap shooting-esque challenge? In a game where the shooting is iffy at best? Ugh, seriously, this entire DLC was such a misfire and utter nonsense.

Look, I agree, the work is lovely… but could you shove off?

I had to pivot on Thursday, when Xbox LIVE went down. This meant no Xbox 360 games could work anymore, so I figured instead I’d work on Final Fantasy XV Multiplayer: Comrades. I tried to get the achievement for fighting the three champions, but I couldn’t figure out how. Also couldn’t get that a-hole Kenny Crow to show up and cook me a meal! Funny enough, I opened the kW map to make sure I hadn’t missed a node or something, and the achievement for getting to an output of 999,999 kW popped without my doing anything. Huh, well there ya go!
