I finally got some time in with a group for Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's Decade Duels Plus on Sunday, wherein we managed to get all my online achievements! You can luckily idle each match and when the 30-second turn timer runs out, the other person notches a win. It took a few hours of this but I got it! Now I’ll have to actually play the rest of the game at some point.

I thought I’d pop into DUCATI - 90th Anniversary for a little bit on Monday, do some races, but little did I know that would end up unlocking the vast majority of the achievements I had left after only a few! And I still have so many races I still need to complete for the final achievement! When I begin to really work on it, I’m definitely gonna need an easy game on the side to keep my streak going in the interim. At least the races haven’t been too tough, though man the few time trials I have had to do are very tight on the timing.

I shouldn’t have had mom’s spaghetti last night…
Figured I’d sit down and finally play Gaijin Charenji 1 : Kiss or Kill this week, as it’s a game I really didn’t know much about and wanted to play something weird. And, hoo boy, did I get my wish! At its core the game is a twin-stick shooter, but that’s about where the normal stuff ends. Each part of the playthrough takes inspiration from an era of gaming (a few look like an SNES game, others look like Atari) and you have to navigate to the end while fending off hordes of opponents. You can either “kiss” or “kill” them, each with their own benefits and BGM (the former’s is pretty great). And then the bosses range from a giant cloudy brain to a giant head of a former dictator. AND THEN, while you’re playing many of the stages there’ll be random FMV scenes overlaid on the gameplay, or mealworms or something. It’s all straight-up insanity and was exactly what I was hoping it’d be. Even better, it’s also not all that hard for this kind of game! I was a little worried the first time I tired Survival, though, as I just couldn’t even breach a few thousand points; turns out I needed to have a fully maxed out “kill” meter and it became a joke to get the related achievement. Quickly found out “kiss” is kind of the harder route. What does that say about our society?!

Yeah, there’s a lot to take in here.
I thought I’d go for a more involved game next, so I landed on DREDGE for the rest of the week. This is the eerie spooky fishing game that everyone seemed to really enjoy back when it came out in 2023, and… well, that was a tough year for me so I missed it. But, nowadays it’s on Game Pass and seemed right up my alley! I started going area by area, fishing up the types of fish I could while also trying to get the aberration(s) of each species before moving on. But, I soon realized I didn’t have something unlocked where some fish weren’t showing up, so I moved on. The story for the game hasn’t really grabbed me yet: you’re a fisherman and this area be creepy. I accidentally ran into the “Iron Rig” DLC, which added some more narrative to the proceedings (along with unlocking more fish types around the map as I progressed) but it all came down to the same loop: fish, get back to town before it got too spooky/late, sell everything, repeat. It’s a great turn-your-brain-off kind of experience and I’m excited to play more!
