I pretty quickly fell into the groove of DREDGE throughout the week, and soon it was even easier than I’d expected. I was even going out at night, with madness creeping in, and happily grabbing fish to complete my collection. This routine became even quicker once I unlocked the Atrophy skill, which clears out a fishing spot instantly while also increasing the chance of aberrations. For those really rare spawns, I’d dock and leave (checkpoint) and go hit the nearest rare spawn with Atrophy. Usually, it would work first time, but if it didn’t I’d just reload and do it again. While I kinda wrapped in The Iron Rig add-on content with the rest of my playthrough, I had left The Pale Reach to do last on its own, and that worked out since its content and achievements were all exclusive to that area. It took until Thursday, but it sped by! The game boils down to a very simple mechanic, but if you love fishing/collecting and a nice creepy atmosphere, it strikes the perfect chord. And I loved the little touches of creepy! Everything just doesn’t feel right, and it’s almost oppressive. There’s little in the way of actual danger, usually. That stupid fish in the Devil’s Spine was annoying, though. Overall, fantastically done!

Oh, I see Andrew Ryan had other business ventures besides Rapture.
Jumped into Minecraft quickly, mostly to record a video getting the new spear achievement. I definitely didn’t NEED to; I actually started a new game right after. But, eh, got it done. Only three other versions!

So, I took a gamble this week, and wanted to play something newer. I did some mathing and thought perhaps Eternal Strands would be one of the next games to leave the Game Pass service, so why not start it early?! Well… I was wrong. But, holy heck, this game is cool! So, it’s an action adventure game, that’s sorta akin to Breath of the Wild in that you can climb everything and the physics of the magic matter. For instance, while fighting a massive drake, you can use ice magic to freeze it to the ground. It’s pretty cool watching it try to escape its chin being stuck to the earth as it tries to fly away; usually it involves a lot of reckless fire. The climbing in general is a little jank, and I’ll often get caught on something (especially during boss fights) that I didn’t mean to. I’m not super far into the game, but the gameplay loop seems to be: unlock new area, take out large boss while collecting materials, go back to camp and upgrade, and repeat. It’s fun, though, and very nice to look at. While I may not be knocking out a leaving Game Pass title, I’m still glad I started it. Hopefully it doesn’t turn into too much of a chore!
