It was on to the final add-on with achievements in Deus Ex: Mankind Divided on Sunday, “A Criminal Past”. This one finds Adam locked in a prison undercover before the events of the base game (even though the menu warns it could spoil some stuff). This means you’re without your augs, too. I mean, I guess there’s a quest line that let’s you get them back, but achievement-wise you have to go without. This means it’s the first time you kinda have to go full stealth, so I had a fair amount of fun creeping around the prison guards. Soon things pop off and the lack of augs does make it a bit tough, but thank goodness for saving and not having to avoid alarms. I did have to not kill anyone still, but that wasn’t very difficult once I found a stun gun. The biggest hurdle completing this one was actually technical, as my game crashed a good handful of times in the short 2 hours it took to make short work of the Pent House. But as I boarded the plane to leave, not only did I finish the DLC but I also finished the game! I sure enjoy this series. Hoping the remaster is well-done and 'I’ll play that, too!

Sir, I see your mustache, of course you’re German.
Time for my 2024 game for October, and, honestly, it was one of the entire reasons I started this whole thing! Slitterhead was a game TommyToday and I were eagerly looking forward to, but it was so undervalued by the gaming community that it came out and immediately fell off. I was shocked to find it had even come out, and, paired the, I felt, unwarranted vitriol Suicide Squad was getting, this whole idea to play games from last year was born. And… yeah, good call. So far. This is a very cool game, with a wild premise and combat that feels very satisfying when you get it down. See, the gimmick is that you’re a formless spirit that can inhabit the bodies of humans and use them to combat the titular monsters. You could attack with one body, combo, parry, all that and whittle down their health, but the key to the combat is to often switch to other bodies to take advantage of their health pool (most skills require blood/HP) and temporary increased strength. This makes battle much, much easier, and safer as if you are about to get smashed by a monstrous octopus/mantis hybrid you can switch to another nearby body and even if that original one dies you don’t lose a “life”. I won’t spoil the story of the game (wow, it gets weird), but the combat never really changes. You get some “optional” new characters and abilities through the game, and that mixes things up a little, but the usual strategy is take an attack-based character and a support-based one and beat on the monsters. Achievement-wise, it’s very easy to finish a single playthrough with most of the achievements using a guide for the handful of collectibles and side-activities. One huge complaint is that the game springs on you at various points in the campaign that you have to unlock one of those “optional” characters I mentioned earlier, and later springs on you at the very end of the game that you have to have less than a total of 100 civilian deaths before you can finish. NOWHERE does it ever even hint you should be watching out for the meatbags you possess to help your Rarities fight. But, funnily enough, I had been careful enough and didn’t have to go back, finishing my Normal playthrough with all the achievements besides the one for Nightmare mode (and Hard, but they’re stackable). I’m only a little worried about that final difficulty, but I have no choice now so I’ll just ram my head against a wall until I make it through.

I… I don’t like this monster.
Oh look, the Nintendo Switch version of Minecraft, which means I needed a quick achievement so I could be social. Inching closer to finishing it! Not sure what I’ll use for emergency achievements someday…
