“I may have gone too far in a few places.”
Achievements Earned In:
- Planet of Lana
- Vigour
- Mixtape
- Police Simulator: Patrol Officers
I made it pretty much to the end of Planet of Lana by the end of Sunday, but I was still eking it a few more days to keep my streak going. I died a few more times, especially when I got to this part with fans, and had to fly your little companion Mui atop a drone without getting diced up. I wrapped up the final stretch on Tuesday, easily reaching the end of the game (with only a single additional death). And since I kept exiting the game every time I died, I still got my “no deaths” achievement. This was a pretty game! I’m glad I knocked it out before it left Game Pass. But, man, I can’t believe it took me more than two evenings to get this one finished, which means I missed out on the other game leaving the library I wanted to get to, Kulebra and the Souls of Limbo. Maybe someday!

Ugh, that sure looks like a bad thing I’m gonna have to deal with.
Ended up using Vigour on Monday again, as my kiddo and I spent the evening with her auntie before she left town. A much better use of my time!

This past week, the much hyped Mixtape was released onto Game Pass. I hadn’t planned on jumping on it right away, but between the “discourse” online (not even gonna validate those losers by discussing it here) and the glowing reviews from critical sources I trust, I decided to just go for it. It’s short, and an easy completion, so why not? And man am I glad I did! For those that didn’t catch the announcement and subsequent marketing, the game is about three friends experiencing their final night together before moving on after high school. The hook is the main character, Stacey Rockford, has planned a soundtrack for the day, each to invoke a memory they all have together or to fit their current activities. It’s a cool premise, and helps elevate the ongoing story. This is very much a game in the vein of the Telltale Walking Dead games, or What Remains of Edith Finch, where it’s mostly narrative with sprinkles of some kind of gameplay, though the achievements mean you have to have some level of skill to complete this one. It was cool how most of the gameplay moments are surreal, like skateboarding down a hill as you “explode” cars in anger or flying across a field on a treasure hunt. I found myself laughing and smiling through the whole tale and loved the selection of tracks used. This is a great game that deserves an evening from anyone that enjoys a good story!

Eh, it’s the ‘90s, we didn’t know body shaming was bad.
Since I wasted soooo much time on Planet of Lana, I decided to maybe get the jump on a game that could leave the service soon. With some research, I decided that game would be Police Simulator: Patrol Officers. I’d “previewed” the game back when it was launched into the Game Pass library and really found it a simple kind of fun, so I certainly wanted to play it while it was free to me. In this title, you take control of a new patrol officer as you ticket bad parking, cite expired license plates, test kooky drivers for DUI, and call for assistance in arrests and for injuries. For whatever reason, this is really relaxing and silly, especially on stream. The completion for the achievements was estimated on TrueAchievements to be around 12-15 hours, but I came in around 5-6 hours. I could have gotten that even lower, but I was enjoying myself and doing tasks both in an inefficient way and that I didn’t even need to do for the 100%. We stan a fun and silly time here! Hopefully I nailed this prediction…
