The new list of games leaving Game Pass included one I’ve had my eye on: Spirittea. The problem is the estimate on TrueAchievements was around 60-80 hours, and that’s a sizeable chunk of time. But, it seemed like a cute game, and I had no pressing plans, so why not try to knock this out before the middle of November? Boy am I glad I did: by the end of the week, I’d reached over 80% of the game completed… and under 40 hours. This is essentially the film Spirited Away through a Stardew Valley lens, where you make nice with the townsfolk and such, but… also run a bathhouse for spirits. You keep the baths warm, feed them their favorite foods, add elixirs to the water, and keep the place tidy to boost their happiness for money and experience. The completion boils down to just getting everything finished, and if you’re efficient enough you can keep the daily cycle to a minimum while getting what you need done. The time moves in a seasonal matter (similar to Harvest Moon) so your first concern is gathering the bugs and fish that are out. Once that’s done, you level up, ingratiate yourself to the town, and earn money. But, to be honest, I cheated that final step: there’s a duplication glitch. Yup, this cuts down the completion A LOT, because you quickly have the money to get your bathhouse built up fully, allowing for more ghosts to enjoy themselves and get more experience each shift. I also used the glitch to have stacks of their favorite foods! I’d invite the smaller ones to cram into the pools up front and take their time, while quickly feeding the larger/troublesome guests their favorite meals to hurry and leave. I think the biggest issue is I can’t tell how many levels I’ve gained, nor how many more I need, and this is how you access more quests around town. As I enter the midway point through my first (only) winter, I’m hoping by the time next Spring ends I have all the quests completed. That’s only gonna leave a single bug I missed in Summer, and I’ll be done! I should be coming way under estimates.
Oh, there is a touch of skill, too. The rhythm minigame during karaoke is… a lot. The design is annoying and if they hadn’t removed the restrictions to button-mashing it would be incredibly hard. But, they did, so I just rotated the D-pad as quickly as possible. Took a few tries, but I got the perfects on each. Whew. That could have been a horrid disaster.

Thank you for spewing into my bath. Please come again.
As I really dug into Spirittea, I had a bit when I couldn’t get an achievement yet on Tuesday, so I loaded up Webgeon Speedrun Edition real quick. No biggie. I’m technically into the “update” now, but they’re just the same levels.
