This week was a lot of going back to games for clean up, starting with now the Android version of Minecraft, getting the same spear achievement for a third time. I even used the same map I’ve been using, so it only took a few minutes (mostly fighting with the touch controls). And now that leaves the Switch version, which is still haven’t ever fully polished off. Maybe someday!

I figured my next game would be Marlow Briggs and the Mask of Death! I started it for the TA Christmas event, so I at least knew it was a God of War-like hack and slash set in modern times. Instead of starting from where I was, I just restarted the whole game so I could at least know what was going on. The combat is whatever, and the graphics are obviously limited as its original place as an XBLA title. I found the cutscenes hilarious; both because they’re beyond over the top and some are weird still-motion action scenes that are great for screenshots but seem silly in reality. You sadly miss this if you’re trying to get the “skip all cutscenes” achievement! But you also have to do two playthroughs, so I guess on one of them you can enjoy the silliness if you so wish. That second run is on Hardcore, and I struggled far less than I expected to. The last couple levels have some pretty unfair fights, but I managed to cheese them a little and used the enemies’ friendly fire to help clear them out. The hardest fight ended up being the end boss (voiced by freaking James Hong!) due to a bug where if I struck him with my fists too soon after one of his attack animations he’d instantly launch into a combo I couldn’t block or dodge. And it shaves off almost half my health bar. Very cool stuff, yo. But overall this was a pretty short, simple, and inoffensive completion. Well… except maybe Briggs’ and Tep’s dialogue. A relic of its time!

You should never have faced off against Ek Chuah Ix!!!
Yeah, I had to play Terraria in the year of our lord 2026! Last getting new ones back in 2022, a new update added a few more achievements and, unlike the last time, I decided to do them all myself! Two of them were simple enough, but the one that requires you to completely cleanse a world requires a little more work. First, I had to create an item to spawn a pre-hardmode boss; the easiest/simplest of these is the one to summon the Eye of Cthulhu. Then I take that item into a new world created using a combination of the new Drunk and Skyblock seeds, which makes it so once the summoned boss is destroyed and you make enough housing for the Dryad to arrive, you’ll auto-unlock the achievement upon speaking to her! Thank goodness, as doing this “legit” would be an absolute pain. I wonder if they’ll add more? Technically the features attached to this batch are older, so… maybe!

Spotify, hit that Darude playlist!
The other game to get a new update with achievements was Palworld… which they finally fixed! Almost since launch the game has run horribly for me. First it was just the textures looking horrendous constantly, then the game would constantly crash while playing online with the kiddo. But now it all works, and man is it nice to see how the game is supposed to look! As for the new achievement, it’s just another raid boss so I had to head to Feybreak and grind through caves (using a map) and collect the necessary slab fragments. Once I had them I headed to the shrine and found they added the ability to warp to a vast arena away from your base to fight the boss! Even with the sliders all in my favor, Hartalis still gave me a run for my money and wiped out all my Pals. Didn’t help that I did not realize that once I warped away I couldn’t return without “spending” my Hartalis Slab, meaning I’d have to either grind again or deal with the boss using my not-strongest Pals (which had been left at my base in preparation for the fight). But still managed! And my partner Bushi is officially maxed out and quite the beast. I expect more achievements to come, especially once the game launches into 1.0 later this year. So I’ll be back!

The textures aren’t the only thing looking better (and different) nowadays…
As is tradition, had to use Delta Squad to extend my streak this week as I went did other things or played other stuff. And again on Friday!
