With my time in the Dark behind me, I figured I’d knock out some of the games leaving Game Pass this half of the month. The Rewinder was first on the list, both due to buzz and because it’s very short. I thought it was gonna be a simple point-and-click adventure, but it actually has a pretty important mystery solving element. This is presented by going back in time in segments where memories play out and you can’t interfere except by influencing people when they are in a meditative state using terms or ideas. It’s pretty cool, but, like most of the skill-less games, following a guide makes it all so easy. It can be completed faster by skipping dialogue, but I let it all play out and enjoyed the story. I had to reset a checkpoint or start from the beginning a couple times because the guide I was using was horribly written and would put missable collectibles AFTER the instructions on passing a checkpoint. Still short though!

And I’d appreciate it if you waited for consent, sir.
The next game was one I was very interested in: Thirsty Suitors. Haven’t heard of it? Think Scott Pilgrim, but with a hefty helping of healing familial generational traumas. The other difference is, unlike the mayo white Pilgrim, Jala is desi, with a Sri Lankan father and Tamil mother. This plays heavily into the familial pressures she faces, which are echoed to her mother from her “paati” and on and on. The whole story is sweet, but also very funny, especially when the exes come into the picture. Each one is a very distinct character, with their own hangups and issues with Jala that you have to work through via turn-based RPG combat! Oh, sick of that? Well, you also get to do QTE cooking and Tony Hawk-lite skateboarding! These are actually the main barriers to completion, as you can set accessibility options to make anything related to the main story super easy. But, even then, the achievements aren’t all that hard. Another one where I didn’t skip any of the story because it was engaging! …And didn’t add a whole lot to the completion time.

Take a break from fighting your (hot) exes and eat some delish (hot) Tamil cooking.
Only jumped into Power Rangers Super Samurai real quick on Friday to get an achievement before heading out for dinner with TommyToday and family. I …really need to sit down (er, stand up) and play this.

I decided my next game would be a flashback to 2015: Tenchu Z, but in Japanese this time! Yeah, I’ve owned this one for ages, and had been putting it off and putting it off because, while it’s a fun game overall and a fairly easy completion… it’s a bit of a drag. There are achievements for beating all 50 missions with a “Ninjutsu Mastery”-rank, on each difficulty, and they don’t stack. So it’s ostensibly 150 missions of hardcore ninja stealth action. I mean, even unsheathing your sword makes noise that people on the other side of a wall can hear, so you have to truly be a ninja. I didn’t get to play a whole lot after I started on Saturday, but I managed to get my 3 successful Ninjutsu Kidens on the first mission. Only… too many more to go.
